One who can fight the good fight

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (1 Timothy 6:11)

A believer who is justified by faith, a man of God, must fight for the faith, uphold the truth, and stay away from syncretism. At the same time, we must fight the battle between our old self and new self, the battle between selfishness and selflessness, the battle between darkness and light. What is the essential character of a person who can fight the good fight?

1. A consecrated character: A man of God must not belong to the world. The whole world lies under the hands of the evil Spirit. Yet we belong to God; we are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and we must declare the praises of God. No immoral, impure, or greedy person - such person is an idolater - has an inheritance in the kingdom of God, because he has no virtues of God.

2. Fleeing from unrighteousness: Flee from old self, self-righteousness, selfishness, arrogance, greed; turn away from godless chatter, the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge (I Tim. 6:20), seductive truth (I Tim. 4:1), the lies of false prophet(I Tim. 4:2; 6:5). Avoid sexual immorality (I Cor. 6:18), avoid invisible and common idols such as money, reputation, politicians, and political parties. This is a battle, and the people of God must constantly escape the desires and lusts of the flesh, eyes, and escape the arrogant habits of this life. If you don't escape, you will fall into the snare, pit, and death.

3. Pursuing righteous character:

· Righteousness: It is the attribute of God, view the world from the righteousness of God. The laws of the country should demonstrate God's justice.

· Godliness: God-like character, as the Lord Jesus completely obeyed the will of God the Father. Practicing godliness is beneficial in everything, and has the promise of this life and the next life.

· Faith: It must grow continuously (Luke 17:5), and must be kept (Romans 14:22), but also be examined and tested (2 Corinthians 13:5), because faith without works is dead (James 2:26).

4. Pursuing perfect character:

· Love: The love here is unconditional love from God, which is different from human love. This kind of love is born out of a pure heart, a good conscience, and a true faith.

· Patience: Love is long-suffering. Learn the patience of Christ to serve and preach with all kinds of patience.

· Gentle: Modest and gentle in everything.

As the people of God, may we be able to fight good battles, and possess the character of fighting: consecrated, avoiding unrighteousness, pursuing righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. These characteristics help us fight good battles, and fighting helps exercise our character.
