We hope everyone had a great Christmas celebration last week. Christmas is probably my kids’ favorite holiday. They enjoy opening all the presents under the Christmas tree and looking at all the Christmas lights. It can be a very busy holiday that we might end up forgetting what Christmas is really about. Christmas is all about John 3:16.
“For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
God the Father loves the world: This is how much God the Father loves the world; that He was willing the sacrifice His one and only Son Jesus Christ. Imagine giving up what is most precious to you and giving it to people that are evil and that don’t deserve it. This is why we celebrate Christmas because it revealed the Father’s love for the world.
God’s love has a purpose: If God the Father sacrificed His one and only Son for the sake the world. Does it mean that He loves the world more than the Son? God the Father did this because He had a purpose for this sacrifice. He wants everyone to have a chance for eternal life. In this Christmas, may this be the message we teach our kids and share with friends: that the ultimate gift they can receive is a relationship with Jesus Christ so that they can have eternal life.
Our Response: In all of this, our response should be very clear and simple. In fact, God made it so clear that He made sure that our response is found in both in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 6:4-7) and New Testament (Matthew 22:37). We must respond to this gift by doing everything we can through the power and grace of the Holy Spirit to love God more than anything else in this world. Our response is to love God with all our heart, mind and soul.
