James 1:5-8 (NIV)
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
Have you ever prayed for something while not expecting to get it? The reason you didn’t get it was because God works in your life according to faith.
We pray, “Lord, guide me, lead me, help me,” and then we go our way without waiting for guidance. We just start to solve the problem by ourselves. Sure, we ask God for wisdom and guidance to make the right decision, but we really don’t expect Him to help so we think it is all up to us.
All throughout the Bible, God has promised to help us, to give us wisdom if only we ask Him. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions the way God makes decisions. God never makes a bad decision; He never makes a mistake. If we trust Him, He will guide us. That’s why we must pray by faith.
