He Has Risen!

FCBC web team CT

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.” (Mark 16:1-6)

More than two thousand years ago, in the early morning of the Lord Jesus’ resurrection, the first witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus were several women. They represented all those who were faithful to the Lord. They knew that the Lord Jesus was crucified and buried in the tomb, yet they still worshipped and served faithfully just as in the past when Jesus was alive. They "bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body." They walked to Jesus' tomb because they loved Jesus and had a close relationship with Jesus; their greatest desire was to follow the Lord Jesus, and their greatest satisfaction was to serve the Lord Jesus. The greatest blessing was to be around the Lord Jesus and listen to the Lord’s teachings. These women who were lowly in society did not desire status, fame, or wealth. However, God let them become the first witnesses of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and entrusted them with the responsibility of spreading the Gospel. The Gospels recorded their names. It tells us that the office of preaching the Gospel is chosen by God, and God allows those who do not want fame to gain fame.

On the way to the tomb, they discussed who could roll the stone of the tomb away. Of course they didn't have the power, but they had the faith to enter the tomb to anoint Jesus with their own hands. They were surprised to see that the big stone was rolled away. At first they thought that it was rolled away for them, but in fact it was rolled away to testify that Jesus has risen! Their plan of anointing Jesus changed from then on. God led them to a different way of serving Him; He changed the direction and position of their ministry. The unexpected ministry was placed in front of them. Those who know, worship, and serve the Lord must obey Jesus' guidance; they have to put down their own plans and do the holy work the Lord Jesus wants them to do.

Although they did not see what they expected to see, they saw a living person. They were stunned, but the angel said, " Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.” The resurrection of Jesus laid a Gospel road from despair to hope, because Jesus defeated death and saved us from despair and we may enter eternal life! May we truly repent before God and serve the resurrected Lord, obeying the Lord as He leads us to a new ministry and live out the assurance and hope of the resurrection. Praise the Lord Jesus; He has risen!
